Nexus is committed to action. Through our Summits we build networks, facilitate learning, and inspire collaboration. As a movement we advocate for and influence the creation of public policies that help increase and improve philanthropy as well as to advance the potential of youth. We have developed the following initiatives to serve as action points for the growing Nexus network.
Nexus Initiatives
Nexus: Platform – As a platform, we encourage and support participant-led collaborative projects that are new, innovative and scalable and that develop new knowledge and social impact. Several projects that have come from the Nexus community so far include Satisfeito, the PVBLIC Foundation, the Common Ground Donor Network (CGDN), and many more.
Nexus: Campaign for Philanthropy – Recognizing the value of tax incentives for philanthropy, the power of public-private partnerships for philanthropic work, and the social value of public generosity and donor education, we advocate for public policies that support more effective philanthropy and social impact investing. To provide a global reference for our Campaign work we have partnered with McDermott, Will & Emery LLP to produce a Global Index and Report on Charity Law and Philanthropy Incentives. Preliminary findings are available here. When the final report is released in late 2013, it will serve as a benchmark for our efforts to mobilize support for a UN resolution calling for a Global Campaign for a Culture of Philanthropy.
Nexus: Youth Policy – Over half of the people on earth are under the age of 25, yet very few are policy makers. To help advance the influence of young people in decision-making processes around the world we have started an effort to examine youth policies and give them visibility in our networks.
Nexus: Fund – Our Global Summit 2012 offered a first time space for youth-focused investors and young social entrepreneurs to design funding mechanisms that support youth-to-youth philanthropy, crowd-sourced funding, and youth-led social impact companies. The results of these deliberations are still not public at this time.
Driven by our annual Global Youth Summit and Regional Youth Summits, Nexus initiatives showcase positive role-models, develop shared learning experiences, and demonstrate the potential of partnership working across diverse communities.
